5 Tips on Travelling with Dog by Car
Planning to opt for a short vacation? Take your dog along and travel with your buddy.
You always get opportunities to travel around and end up leaving your pet at a friend’s place or even alone in the house. But this time, take your hairy pal along with you.
Traveling with pets could strengthen the bond between you and them. You get to spend time and you both have loads of fun together.
Follow these tips to travel with your dog by car.
#1 – Plan And Prepare Your Travel with Your Dog
Since you will be traveling on road via car, choose the right restraint for your pet. Now, while driving you should not be distracted. And you would definitely want your pooch sliding from one side to another especially once you start driving. To ensure the safety of your canine, you can set them in the transport carriers or kennels, harnesses or seatbelts for your pet, put up sheer and net barriers, etc. It is always better to treat them like babies and seat them behind like children.
While packing your bags and the items for your buddy, ensure that you pack the lead collar, ID tag, food and water bowls, the favorite blanket and toy of your pet, dog clothes (if you are traveling in winters), etc.
#2 – Carry Dog Food And Medications
Dog food is necessary to carry. If you don’t, your dog will be wondering, “Human! You brought me along and left my food back at home. What am I supposed to eat now, air?”
Dog medications are equally important to carry along. Your pet could be allergic to a few things or our chum could need a medication for motion sickness and anxiety. It will be better to check out with your vet before the travel, what extra you would need to carry along, just for safety.

#3 – Look for the Pet-Friendly Accommodation
You will be booking a room when you reach the destination or maybe you have booked rooms earlier. But hey! What about you canine? Is your pet allowed in that hotel? If not, check for pet-friendly hotels.
Your furry pal won’t go anywhere without you. A slight change in location could cause lots of confusion for your chum.
Remember to ask about the expenses regarding the pet food and other benefits that could be received from the hotel for your pup.
#4 – Explore Like A Dog And With The Dog
Once you reach your destination, take your hairy buddy for a stroll along the block. The canine would have been bored or even tired by just staying in a confined area with nothing to do.
Taking a walk along with your pup could help you discover new places or food joints, etc. Walks could help in becoming a little familiar with the places nearby. In case you run out of food stock or any such thing, you could buy it from the pet shop, near the pet-friendly hotel you are staying in.
Chances are that you may find whatever you need at the lodge you will be staying in.
#5 – Take Short Breaks For Your Chum
We humans can survive to an extent of being in a car with open windows or ACs, but your furry bud will need to breathe fresh air from time to time. Plan on making frequent stops. Your pooch might want to go poop or do other business, walk around and stretch the muscles a bit, and wear off the tiredness and boredom.
Your canine is just like a kid. It can’t talk, or do all the paw actions, but it can bark at least. Try to understand the behavior of your dog. Remember to never ever leave your pet in the car alone. Dogs could suffer from heat and suffocation easily and are prone to heat strokes as well.
Your routine might change when you reach the location, but nothing will change for your doggie. Take your dog for walks, play with them, feed them regularly and gradually as you would not want them to have an upset stomach especially while traveling. In case, you are taking the pooch for a boat ride, remember to get a floating vest for them. Treat your canine with care and like a small kid. In fact, you can excite them by telling them about your trip.
Now go pack your bags and your canine’s bag, and set off to the best ride of the life for both of you.
Happy Traveling with your Dog!
